Quick Questions
What got you into running?
My friend signed us up for Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life. I absolutely loved the atmosphere and sense of community where people came together for a great cause.
What are you most proud of in your running?
Running has helped me prove to myself that I can be resilient. Over the years my times improved and I achieved my ultimate goal of a 3:30 marathon at Halstead in 2023. I then suffered injury from osteoarthritis but through rehab and support from the club I’ve been able to get back to enjoying running, training and racing in a way that is sustainable for me.
When did you join Tiptree Road Runners?
I joined in 2017 with club mate Lorraine Mills. We knew each other from the school gates and were both training for a marathon. We decided to join a local club to support our training. Lorraine knew someone who had recommended the club for being welcoming and supportive.
Favourite race you’ve run?
It’s got to be London Marathon. I’ve been lucky to run it 4 times. Hearing everyone’s stories and causes they are running for is so emotional. The wave of sound throughout and seeing Tower Bridge then Queen Vic at the end is just incredible.
Most memorable run or performance?
Two really stand out. The Grizzly was cut short in 2018 due to the ‘The Beast from the East’, but the 8 miles we ran in the snow was so much fun. The Dig Deep Ultra in the beautiful Peak District in 2022 was my first hilly ultra experience. Both mixed an incredible race experience and a fantastic weekend away with club mates.
Favourite race distance?
It used to be marathons, but now 5 mile to 10K.
Do you prefer racing or social running?
Whilst I love the buzz of race day and having had a successful race, there’s nothing like a good old chatty social trail run to feed the soul.
Who inspires you at the club?
That’s such a hard one to answer as many people are inspirational in different ways, however Julia Bawden is such an inspiration to what is possible for women as we age. Julia achieves incredible standards time and time again over all distances and clearly just loves running, including the social aspect. I hope to be like her if my body allows.
Favourite place to run locally?
There’s a lovely 7mile trail loop from Feering aross the fields to Inworth and Messing and back via Prestead Hall. My dog Rocket can run off lead for almost the whole way.
One word that describes TRR?
Community.
