Quick Questions
What got you into running?
I’ve run since my teenage years, starting with BDAC as a sprinter. I’ve always loved to run and take part in sport. Not sure how I went from sprinter to distance running but I love running now more than I ever have.
What are you most proud of in your running?
I can only take a tiny bit of credit for this, but seeing fellow club mates progress, reach goals and enjoy the G3 sessions that we plan and lead.
When did you join Tiptree Road Runners?
I joined in 2020 (just as COVID restrictions were starting to lift). Best thing I ever did.
What is your favourite training session?
I enjoy a good, hard ‘beat the marker’ but also love to get to the track when I can (takes me back to sprint days!). I also love a Thursday session when the groups can mix. Sessions are designed especially so that every ability is catered for. A great way to train and all mix together.
Favourite race you’ve run?
Favourite race is a recent one – Milton Keynes marathon when I achieved the sub 4 hour dream that I’ve had for a very long time! Thought the time had passed where that was possible.
Most memorable run or performance?
Most memorable is London marathon. I’ve been lucky enough to run it twice and both times are right up there in my top days ever. The crowd, the atmosphere and sense of achievement I will never forget. Also raised nearly £7k for two small charities across the two races which I hope made a difference to them.
Favourite race distance?
Not sure I have a favourite distance? Usually it’s based on the one I’ve recently done well in!
Do you prefer racing or social running?
When racing goes well, it’s hard to beat that feeling but, the most enjoyable runs are the ones with friends. Long, easy runs with friends are the best.
Who inspires you at the club?
My inspiration comes from many different people in many different ways. But it’s hard to overlook Michelle Edwards – similar in age and, prior to her injury, also in ability. I was particularly sad when she had her awful accident. Her fierce determination in comeback is beyond impressive. I love her fighting spirit.
Favourite local place to run?
A 10k loop through Kelvedon / Highfields Lane / back through the gravel paths to Feering.
One word that describes TRR?
Supportive.
