Quick Questions

What got you into running?

Having a great PE teacher at school, and then being diagnosed with osteoarthritis at 21.

What are you most proud of in your running?

Running has helped me physically and mentally through all of my cancer treatment.

When did you join Tiptree Road Runners?

In 2013. A friend who was already a member kept telling me to join, but I thought it was only for really good runners. While training for the London Marathon and entering other races, I met more TRR members and realised how friendly and welcoming everyone was.

What is your favourite training session?

Training together as one big group!

Favourite race you’ve run?

I’ve run many races over the years, but my favourites are the ones I’ve finished with friends. Paris in 2026 was especially memorable because I ran with my son. It was his first race and his first marathon, which made it an amazing experience.

Most memorable run or performance?

Brighton Marathon in 2012. I’d just been diagnosed with breast cancer, and my lump and I ran about 20 minutes quicker than I did at the London Marathon in 2011.

Do you prefer racing or social running?

Social running is the best, but it’s also nice to race occasionally just to see if I can run a little quicker.

Who inspires you at the club?

Everyone! You never know what someone is going through behind the scenes. Jim Slater is especially inspiring—he never gives up and is still running well into his 80s.

Favourite local place to run?

Along the sea wall in any direction. Some sections are easier to run than others, but the scenery is always changing.

One word that describes TRR?

Encouraging.
