Essex XC League

Last Sunday was race 5, the final race of the Essex XC League season. Unfortunately we were one lady and one man down from fielding complete teams. Our ladies team finished second in Division 2 on the day, which secure their place in Division 2 again for next season. And our men’s team finished sixth in Division 2 on the day, with an overall finish position of sixth for the season.

Well done to anyone that has run an Essex League XC race this season. Thank you!

Runner of the Month – January 2026

Ladies Winner

Difficult to know where to start with this lady, but she is a shining beacon of everything that this club stands for. Inclusive, encouraging, super friendly, supportive, warm, funny, kind, excitable and very, very loud! Everybody loves her and has, at some point, been on the receiving end of one of her ‘super’ hugs! But it’s not just her nature that has earned her our nomination. After recently transitioning into G3, she has shown that with hard work and commitment to training, she can turn this into some fantastic results. A PB and silver standard at Maldon Parkrun on New Year’s Day, started the year as she means to go on and (although technically February) she also went on to PB at Bentley half marathon on the 1st Feb and secured a brilliant age category 4th place. We are beyond thrilled (and we think everyone else will be). Our ROM is Anna Taylor!

Men’s Winner

Sometimes we forget the effort some people put into the running community in general, and parkrun and TRR in particular, because that is what they always do. This runner started the New Year posting a decent parkrun time and two days later, at the same parkrun, paced a lady runner to her first sub 32 minute parkrun. Pacing is not as easy as it looks (as most of us know), so a margin of 8 seconds is a decent one. A week later, this runner ran their fastest time for a number of years, testament to their efforts in training and maintaining a gradual and coordinated weight loss programme. More parkruns as RD, competing in both Benfleet 15 and at NESS XC on 25 January completed their achievements, but for good measure, there was a step up to G2 to run one of their sessions as RL. Our male Runner of the Month for January is the “Awesome” Len Marten.
