ATW Friday Night Runs 5k – Colchester

The ATW Friday Night Runs return to Colchester for an evening of fast, chip-timed racing on a traffic-free, officially measured 5km course. Whether you’re aiming for a personal best, taking on your first 5k, or competing for county honours, this event caters for runners of all abilities.

The evening begins at 5:30pm with a 1-mile race and fun run, followed by a series of 5km races organised by predicted finish time. The final two races showcase some of the region’s fastest athletes, with elite women’s and men’s races closing the evening.

The event also incorporates the Essex County 5km Championships, with county championship results produced from the combined results of all 5km races.

Race timetable

• 5:30pm – 1 Mile Race & Fun Run
• 6:00pm – 5km (23 minutes and over)
• 7:00pm – 5km (20–23 minutes)
• 7:30pm – 5km (Men, 18–20 minutes)
• 8:00pm – 5km (Men, 16–18 minutes)
• 8:30pm – Elite Women’s 5km (sub-20 minutes)
• 9:00pm – Elite Men’s 5km (sub-16 minutes)

The flat, closed-road tarmac circuit has no traffic and few sharp bends, making it an excellent opportunity to chase a new personal best.

To qualify for the Essex County Championships, runners must meet Essex Athletics eligibility requirements, including representing their first-claim club and wearing their official club vest.
