Welcome all!

Thank Julia for the std report.

Quintine Trail du diable au Sukre in Belguim

Malcolm Bailey, I discovered the Belgium version of the Grizzly. Extremely muddy (indeed it was worse that the Devon experience) with 1300 feet of climbing. Virtually all off road it was the hardest half that I have ever tackled (and what made it worse was that I had not trained for the distance). Lots of positives – for completing the course I was given a bottle of 8.1% beer and it was a great few days away in Ypres visiting the WW1 museums and the Menin gate (where the Last post is played every night during a ceremony in memorial to those that died and missing during WW1. Very moving experience). I would recommend the event – 5 distances 10k, 21.1k, 31k, 42.2k and 84k (the later for the mad ones – 4 laps of the half marathon course!). Also you might find this hard to believe but I did enjoy a few Belgium beers whilst I was away! 03:37:00

Trail run from the Bell in Feering.

Runner of the month April.

Men,

The month started off with a PB and silver std, at the Bromley 10k. Followed 2 weeks later by another PB and Silver std at the Boston marathon. He has now archived all 9 silver std since joining the club. As well as these excellent results he can be seen regularly volunteering at park run on a Saturday morning, and supporting his kids in there running.

He has also kicked off being the M5K series race director. Which sold out for the 1st time in its history. And he has recently passed his Lirf and has joined the run leader team.

Phil Nicholls

Ladies,

A tiny departure from the regular nominations in that this month I’d like to nominate just the one club member.

Okay, granted this club member has three heads, but I’d still like to nominate despite their clearly weird appearance.

Individually we have seen each of these individual heads join, grow and evolve into shining examples of what a great Tiptree Road Runner is. They’re smiley, encouraging, always ready to help out and they put everything into their training. It’s no surprise then that individually each of these heads has actually won the Runner of the Month before.

BUT! In the past five months or so we have seen these three heads come together to form a formidable (sorry Lawsey) team. Something new and even better than they were before!

They have set their sights on completing the London Marathon, their first marathon. They set out the training plan, stuck to it, supported each other, learned what equipment and nutrition worked and didn’t work and then went out there and smashed it raising over £8,800 for Independent Age together. And they did this whilst smiling throughout.

This three headed club member has been such an inspiration that, despite vowing never to do another marathon, yes, I chucked my name into the ballot for next year. When I grow up, I want to be just like this three headed club member.

My nomination for the April 2024 Runner of the Month is the unstoppable inspiring Charlies Angels like team that is…

Clare-Alex-Kim.
